4th St & Lafayette [SE Corner] (1984)

Who remembers the Tower Records in Greenwich Village? It was a fixture on East 4th Street and Lafayette from 1984 through 2006. Today, the space is occupied by MLB Fan Cave, I think. MTV's Kurt Loder said, "Keith Richards used to live upstairs, directly above Tower Records, so he was always outside there late at night walking his dog. And you'd walk up and talk to him, and you wouldn't be able to understand a word he was saying." [I wish I could remember where I found this great photo.]        CLICK TO ENLARGE

The neighborhood around 8th Avenue, from 23rd Street to 42nd Street, has always been a little seedy. I once saw a homeless man standing in the middle of the sidewalk at this Chelsea corner with his pants down sporting a huge erect penis...in broad daylight!             CLICK TO ENLARGE

We got robbed at Waterfront Ale House one night. That sucked, but it's still a pretty good dive bar, with above-average pub grub. Try the Venison Chili, the French Dip, or a burger (Elk, Ostrich, Bison)...all with homemade "catsup." Watch out...their "Sam's Hot sauce" is pure fire.
